Türkiye and Egypt Reject Forced Displacement of Palestinians, Urge Support for UNRWA
Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Türkiye and Egypt have strongly opposed any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their homeland, urging Israel to allow the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to continue its vital humanitarian operations.
In a joint statement following talks in Ankara on Tuesday, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed their countries’ unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights and resilience. They warned that any forced displacement would exacerbate the humanitarian crisis, destabilize the region, and escalate the conflict.
The statement comes amid renewed concerns over US proposals under former President Donald Trump, suggesting that Egypt and Jordan absorb displaced Palestinians from Gaza—a plan widely dismissed by the international community, including Muslim, Arab, and European nations.
The ministers stressed the necessity of a just and lasting peace based on international law, UN resolutions, and the two-state solution. They reiterated their call for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, as the only viable path to lasting stability in the Middle East.
