Turkmenistan, Japan Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthening Comprehensive Bilateral Partnership

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Turkmenistan and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening their comprehensive bilateral partnership during political consultations held between the foreign ministries of the two countries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on July 3.
The Turkmen delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Mähri Bäşimova, while the Japanese side was headed by Masaki Ishikawa, Special Representative of Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Central Asia.
During the consultations, the two sides held a comprehensive exchange of views on a broad range of bilateral and regional issues. They emphasized that the regular and trust-based dialogue maintained at the highest political and governmental levels provides a solid foundation for the continued development of Turkmen-Japanese relations.
Both delegations reaffirmed their readiness to strengthen coordination within major international organizations, particularly the United Nations, with the shared objective of promoting global peace, stability and sustainable development.
The diplomats also attached special importance to practical cooperation under the Central Asia + Japan Dialogue, stressing the need to effectively implement agreements reached during previous high-level meetings and summits.
Reviewing political relations, the two sides praised the growing effectiveness of inter-parliamentary contacts and acknowledged the important coordinating role played by the parliamentary friendship groups in advancing bilateral cooperation.
On trade and economic relations, the consultations focused on the implementation of joint investment projects. The participants noted the positive momentum in cooperation across the gas chemical industry, energy, transport and logistics sectors, while highlighting the valuable contribution of the Turkmen-Japanese and Japan-Turkmen Committees for Economic Cooperation in promoting collaboration in priority economic fields.
The two sides also underscored the importance of expanding humanitarian cooperation. They expressed support for strengthening exchanges in science and education, promoting Japanese language programmes in Turkmenistan, and enhancing cultural dialogue to further deepen people-to-people ties.
Concluding the consultations, Turkmenistan and Japan reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to expanding their comprehensive partnership and agreed that regular political consultations between their foreign ministries remain an effective mechanism for identifying new opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation.
