UAE Celebrates International Day of Happiness

Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) joins the global community in celebrating the International Day of Happiness on March 20, reaffirming its dedication to enhancing the well-being and quality of life of all residents and citizens.
As one of the pioneering nations to integrate happiness as a key metric in government policies, the UAE considers happiness a fundamental indicator of national progress and success. This approach has solidified the country’s position among the top nations in the annual World Happiness Report, published by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network under the United Nations. The report evaluates nations based on various factors, including income levels, economic production, social support, life expectancy, personal freedoms, absence of corruption, and generosity.
This year’s celebration holds particular significance as it coincides with the “Year of Community,” a national initiative designed to promote happiness, stability, and well-being across all sectors of society. The initiative aims to foster greater cooperation and solidarity, reinforcing the UAE’s commitment to social cohesion and quality of life enhancement.
Over the years, the UAE has introduced several government-led initiatives to boost community happiness. A landmark step was taken in 2016 with the establishment of the Minister of State for Happiness, a role dedicated to developing policies that prioritize well-being. In a subsequent cabinet reshuffle in October 2017, the portfolio was expanded to include “well-being,” further strengthening the nation’s commitment to holistic development. Additionally, in July 2020, responsibilities related to Quality of Life and Happiness were transferred to the Ministry of Community Development, ensuring an integrated approach to improving residents’ overall satisfaction.
Through these efforts, the UAE continues to position itself as a global leader in fostering happiness and well-being, emphasizing its vision of a prosperous and content society.
