34th Abu Dhabi International Book Fair Opens Under Presidential Patronage

Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: The 34th Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF) officially opened today under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates. Held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), the event will run until May 5, 2025, and is set to become a global hub for knowledge, creativity, and cultural dialogue.

Organised by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC), part of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, this year’s book fair is themed “Knowledge Illuminates Our Community” and features an impressive lineup of 1,400 exhibitors representing 96 countries. The fair showcases a comprehensive programme with approximately 2,000 activities and events, catering to readers, intellectuals, publishers, and content creators from around the world.

The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair continues to serve as a vital platform for cultural exchange, reinforcing the UAE’s position as a leading international hub for knowledge and creativity. The fair aligns with the UAE’s strategic vision to invest in culture, support the publishing industry, and foster dialogue between civilisations.

This year’s event includes a series of special commemorations. Notably, panel discussions and interactive exhibits will highlight the legacy of Ibn Sina, marking 1,000 years since the publication of his groundbreaking work “The Canon of Medicine”. The fair will explore Ibn Sina’s ideas, achievements, and his profound impact on the global advancement of medical science.

Additionally, the fair celebrates the timeless influence of “One Thousand and One Nights,” recognized as the “Book of the World” for its enduring inspiration across cultures and its lasting impact on writers and artists worldwide.

The Culture of the Caribbean Basin has been chosen as this year’s Guest of Honour, underscoring the UAE’s commitment to fostering global cultural partnerships and providing enriching knowledge experiences. This choice further strengthens Abu Dhabi’s status as a premier destination for intellectual and cultural exchange, enhancing the city’s role as a beacon of global dialogue and creativity.
