Qatar Launches National Cyber Security Strategy 2024-2030

Doha, The Gulf Observer: Under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, the National Cyber Security Agency unveiled the National Cyber Security Strategy 2024-2030 on Tuesday. The event was attended by several ministers, heads of authorities, and senior officials, marking a significant step toward strengthening Qatar’s cyber resilience and achieving Qatar National Vision 2030.

In his opening remarks, HE President of the National Cyber Security Agency, Engineer Abdulrahman bin Ali Al Farahid Al Malki, expressed pride in Qatar’s recognition by the United Nations’ International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as a global leader in cybersecurity, securing the top rank in the Global Cybersecurity Index. He emphasized the importance of collective efforts between the government and private sectors in safeguarding cyberspace, reflected in the strategy’s vision of building trust and ensuring Qatar’s continued progress and prosperity.

HE Al Malki highlighted that the strategy is founded on core principles, including Shared Responsibility, a Risk-Based Approach, a Results-Oriented focus, respect for Individual Human Rights, Economic Prosperity, and Coordination and Collaboration. These guiding principles aim to position Qatar as a global leader in secure technology adoption while protecting national security.

The strategy outlines five key pillars:

  1. Cyber Security and Resilience in the Qatar Ecosystem: Enhancing the security and resilience of Qatar’s critical infrastructure in response to evolving cyber risks.
  2. Legislation, Regulations, and Law Enforcement: Developing robust legal and regulatory frameworks for national cyber governance.
  3. Thriving, Innovative, and Data-Driven Economy: Promoting research, innovation, and investment to foster a dynamic cybersecurity industry.
  4. Cyber Culture and Workforce Talent Development: Building a skilled cybersecurity workforce and fostering public awareness.
  5. International Cooperation and Trusted Partners: Enhancing regional and global collaboration to ensure a secure and resilient cyberspace.

Engineer Dana Yousef Al Abdulla, Director of National Cyber Governance and Assurance Affairs, provided an in-depth overview of the strategy’s objectives, emphasizing its critical role in supporting Qatar National Vision 2030. She highlighted the risks and opportunities that informed the strategy’s development, underscoring its comprehensive approach to addressing the growing challenges of cybersecurity.

In his concluding remarks, HE Al Malki reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to safeguarding national cyberspace, benefiting all individuals and organizations, and maintaining Qatar’s position as a cybersecurity leader both regionally and internationally.

The National Cyber Security Strategy 2024-2030 stands as a roadmap for ensuring a secure, resilient, and forward-looking cyberspace as Qatar continues its journey toward sustainable national development.
