Italian Delegation Congratulates New NATO Assembly Secretary General Dr. Benedetta Berti at Spring Session in Dayton

Dayton, The Gulf Observer: The President of the Italian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Hon. Lorenzo Cesa, extended his warmest congratulations to Dr. Benedetta Berti on her election as the new Secretary General of the Assembly. Dr. Berti, who previously headed the Atlantic Alliance’s Office for Policy Planning, was elected during the NATO Assembly’s spring session held in Dayton, Ohio.
In an official statement, President Cesa expressed the pride of the Italian delegation in Dr. Berti’s appointment, emphasizing the rigor of the selection process and her longstanding dedication to strengthening transatlantic relations. “The election of Dr. Berti to the administrative head of the NATO Assembly makes us particularly proud as an Italian delegation, both for the severe selection she has passed and for the commitment she will make to strengthen transatlantic ties by promoting the parliamentary dimension that makes NATO the largest democratic alliance in the world,” he said.
The Italian delegation, composed of deputies Andrea Orsini (Vice President) and Luciano Cantone, along with Senators Michele Barcaiuolo, Stefano Borghesi, Alberto Losacco, Simona Flavia Malpezzi, Paolo Marcheschi, and Adriano Paroli, traveled to Dayton to mark the 30th anniversary of the Dayton Accords. These historic agreements ended the conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina and laid the foundation for the present-day institutional framework of the former Yugoslav republic.
In addition to commemorative events, the Assembly is focusing on NATO’s strategic direction ahead of the upcoming summit in The Hague (24–25 June). The discussions have underscored the necessity of Alliance unity and the pursuit of a just and sustainable peace in Ukraine. Senator Malpezzi contributed to this dialogue by presenting a comprehensive report on the subject.
On the sidelines of the Assembly, the Italian delegation also held bilateral meetings with their counterparts from Israel, Georgia, and Hungary, reinforcing Italy’s ongoing commitment to international cooperation and dialogue within the NATO framework.
