Myanmar Allocates K19 Billion for Road and Bridge Construction Following Mandalay Earthquake Damage

Mandalay, The Gulf Observer: The Mandalay earthquake caused significant damage to infrastructure, affecting five production and village roads and six bridges across three regions and states. Full repairs are scheduled for completion within the current financial year, according to the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development.
Looking ahead, the Ministry plans to allocate K19 billion for the construction of 116 miles of production roads and 305 bridges during the 2025–2026 financial year. This was confirmed by an official from the Rural Development Department under the ministry, who emphasized that the extensive project will be implemented across 115 villages.
“In the 2025–2026 financial year, 116 miles of roads and 305 bridges will be constructed using Union government funds,” the official stated. “Although many more projects are needed, we must align our implementation with the annual plans due to the extensive requirements.”
The official further noted that the development initiative will cover all regions and states, with the exception of Kachin, Kayah, Chin, and Rakhine States, as well as Shan State (North). Tender invitations for the projects are currently underway.
In the 2024–2025 financial year, the ministry successfully constructed 203 miles and five furlongs of production roads, village roads, and bridges, utilizing a total budget of K21.36 billion.
The government’s continued investment in rural infrastructure is aimed at improving connectivity and supporting local economies, especially in the aftermath of natural disasters like the recent earthquake in Mandalay.
