Trump Pleased as NATO Agrees to Raise Defense Spending to 5 Percent of GDP: Czech Officials Hail 'Very Successful' Summit

The Hague, The Gulf Observer: U.S. President Donald Trump expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the NATO summit held in The Hague, where member states agreed to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP, according to Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský.

Lipavský, speaking after the summit, described the gathering as “very successful,” crediting Czech President Petr Pavel for playing a key role in influencing President Trump during an exclusive two-hour dinner hosted by the Dutch royal couple.

“It’s a great success for our country. We can be proud,” Lipavský stated, highlighting that the agreement reflects Czechia’s commitment to a responsible and proactive foreign policy.

Czech Defense Minister Jana Černochová also praised the summit, calling it a pivotal moment for NATO in terms of strengthening military preparedness and enhancing defense obligations among allies.

“The summit marks a turning point,” Černochová declared, emphasising the significance of the newly adopted alliance commitments, which are designed to reinforce NATO’s collective security in the face of emerging global threats.

Černochová affirmed that Czechia is prepared to fulfil its share of the enhanced defense responsibilities, aligning with the broader objective of ensuring regional stability and upholding NATO unity.

The agreement to raise defense spending to 5% of GDP signals a major step in NATO’s strategic posture, reflecting growing concerns over global security challenges and the alliance’s determination to bolster deterrence capabilities.
