Azerbaijan and Botswana Establish Diplomatic Relations

New York, The Gulf Observer: The Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Botswana have formally established diplomatic relations following the signing of a Joint Communiqué on November 11, 2025, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The document was signed by Tofig Musayev, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United Nations, and Charles Masole, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Botswana to the United Nations.
The Joint Communiqué reflects the shared aspiration of both nations to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between their governments and peoples, laying the foundation for a constructive partnership.
It underscores that the Governments of Azerbaijan and Botswana will be guided by the Charter of the United Nations and the universally accepted norms and principles of international law — particularly those pertaining to sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in internal affairs.
Following the signing ceremony, the Permanent Representatives also signed a joint letter addressed to the UN Secretary-General, requesting the circulation of the Joint Communiqué as an official document of the United Nations.
The establishment of diplomatic relations marks a new milestone in the development of Azerbaijan’s ties with African nations and opens avenues for future cooperation in areas of common interest at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
