Azerbaijan, Thailand Discuss Expanding Cooperation in High-Level Baku Meeting

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov on November 28 held a meeting with Issara Sereewatthanawut, Secretary-General of King Prajadhipok’s Institute (KPI), an institution operating under the Thai Parliament, to discuss expanding friendly and cooperative relations between Azerbaijan and Thailand.

The discussions focused on a wide range of areas, including parliamentary diplomacy, collaboration between think tanks, and regional developments. Bayramov emphasized Azerbaijan’s active engagement in major international platforms, highlighting the country’s chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, COP29, and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA). He noted that these roles contribute significantly to fostering global dialogue and cooperation.

The Foreign Minister also provided an overview of upcoming high-level events that Azerbaijan will host next year, including the World Urban Forum (WUF-13), sessions of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), and the CICA summits. He stressed that these gatherings will further enhance both intraregional and international interaction.

During the meeting, the sides reviewed existing contacts between King Prajadhipok’s Institute and Azerbaijani think tanks, expressing interest in expanding cooperation in this area. They also discussed plans to organize future consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries.

Both parties acknowledged the activities carried out by the Parliamentary Network and the Youth Organization of the Non-Aligned Movement. They underlined the importance of strengthening mutual parliamentary cooperation, particularly within the framework of the Azerbaijani Parliament’s observer status in the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.
