Oman and Italy Pledge to Strengthen Strategic Partnership and Expand Bilateral Cooperation
Muscat, The Gulf Observer: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni have reaffirmed their commitment to further develop the strategic partnership between the Sultanate of Oman and the Italian Republic, strengthen bilateral relations, and expand cooperation across multiple sectors to serve the common interests of the two countries.
The statement was issued in a joint communique on the occasion of Prime Minister Meloni’s official visit to Oman on Wednesday, 14 January 2026, at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
During the visit, the two leaders held official talks focusing on enhancing bilateral relations and broadening areas of cooperation. They emphasized their commitment to continue strengthening the strategic partnership and agreed to promote collaboration in trade, investment, and industry, encourage public-private sector partnerships, and activate joint committees to boost bilateral trade. An action plan for 2026–2030 will serve as a framework to follow up on the implementation of signed memoranda of understanding and agreements and further advance cooperation in diverse fields.
The communique highlighted the high level of collaboration in culture, heritage, university education, and research, with both sides stressing the importance of continuing exchanges in these sectors.
Sultan Haitham and Prime Minister Meloni also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, affirming their commitment to supporting efforts aimed at achieving security and stability, and resolving disputes through peaceful means in accordance with international law.
Prime Minister Meloni commended Oman’s pivotal role in promoting dialogue and regional peace, while His Majesty Sultan Haitham acknowledged Italy’s support for peaceful solutions and constructive engagement.
At the conclusion of the visit, Prime Minister Meloni expressed her gratitude for the warm reception and generous hospitality extended by the Sultanate.
