Romania, Pakistan Discuss Expanding Cooperation on Skilled Labour Mobility

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Romania and Pakistan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in the field of labour mobility during a meeting held at the Embassy of Romania in Islamabad.
Romania’s Ambassador to Pakistan, H.E. Dan Stoenescu, received Muhammad Awn Chaudhry, Minister of State for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, for a constructive discussion focused on enhancing bilateral collaboration in promoting skilled and orderly temporary labour migration.
During the meeting, both sides discussed mechanisms to facilitate labour mobility based on transparency, mutual benefit, and full respect for national legislation. Ambassador Stoenescu noted that Romania welcomes qualified professionals who meet the country’s labour market requirements and who contribute responsibly and legally to its economy.
He emphasized that visa issuance remains a regulated process conducted strictly in accordance with national legislation and established conditions. According to the ambassador, migration frameworks must remain well-regulated, predictable, and aligned with the temporary nature of labour mobility schemes.
Ambassador Stoenescu clarified that Romania is not a destination for permanent migration. Instead, bilateral cooperation in this sector aims to facilitate temporary, skills-based mobility, allowing workers to return to Pakistan with enhanced professional experience and expertise.
He highlighted that the knowledge, skills, and financial resources gained by workers abroad could play an important role in supporting Pakistan’s sustainable development, making labour mobility a mutually beneficial arrangement for both countries.
The ambassador also reaffirmed Romania’s willingness to work closely with Pakistani authorities to develop effective and responsible cooperation mechanisms. These include strengthening information exchange, improving pre-departure preparation for workers, implementing safeguards against irregular migration, and taking firm action against malpractice by certain manpower agencies.
Both sides agreed that continued dialogue and collaboration will help ensure that labour mobility remains safe, legal, and beneficial for both Romania and Pakistan.
