Baku

Baku, The Gulf Observer: A spectacular cultural event showcasing Turkmenistan’s rich equestrian traditions was held on March 4, 2026, at the Bina Equestrian Center in Baku, featuring the legendary Galkynysh national equestrian games group from Turkmenistan.

The renowned ensemble delivered a captivating performance that celebrated friendship, culture, and artistic excellence while highlighting the deep-rooted traditions of Turkmen horse breeding and the remarkable skills of dzhigits—master horse riders known for their daring acrobatics.

The creative collective, which received the highest award at the International Circus Arts Festival in Monte Carlo in 2025, presented its program to the Azerbaijani public for the first time. During the performance, the artists demonstrated complex horseback riding techniques, breathtaking acrobatic stunts, and flawless synchronisation, reflecting the professionalism and long-standing traditions of the Turkmen school of equestrian art. The audience responded enthusiastically, greeting the performance with prolonged applause.

The program also included performances by artists from the State Circus of Turkmenistan and the State Equestrian Circus named after Gorogly in Arkadag, who presented colourful acrobatic and artistic acts showcasing the country’s unique cultural heritage and modern achievements in circus arts.

A highlight of the evening was the ceremonial appearance of riders carrying the national flags of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, symbolising the fraternal ties between the two nations and underscoring their growing cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

The event also marked an important step in strengthening bilateral relations. During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in equestrian sports and horse breeding was signed between the State Association “Turkmen Atlary” and the Equestrian Federation of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The cultural showcase not only celebrated Turkmenistan’s equestrian heritage but also contributed to promoting cultural exchange and deeper ties between the two countries.
