Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: Following the inaugural meeting of the Uzbekistan–Tajikistan Supreme Interstate Council, the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Tajikistan formalized a wide-ranging framework for enhanced bilateral cooperation through the signing and exchange of multiple agreements.

The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, jointly signed a Joint Statement on Deepening Strategic Partnership and Allied Relations, marking a significant milestone in the evolving ties between the two neighboring countries.

In addition to the joint statement, an extensive package of documents was concluded at the levels of government institutions, ministries, and agencies. These agreements aim to expand cooperation across key sectors and strengthen economic integration.

Among the major agreements signed were a program to increase bilateral trade turnover and an industrial cooperation program, both designed to boost economic activity and facilitate joint ventures. The two sides also signed an agreement on the mutual use of electronic systems for certification of the origin of goods, which is expected to streamline trade procedures and enhance transparency.

Cooperation in the social sector was reinforced through a healthcare cooperation agreement, alongside a pact on the coordination of radio frequency assignments in border areas, aimed at improving communication infrastructure and reducing technical interference.

Further institutional collaboration was reflected in a protocol amending the intergovernmental agreement on the establishment of the Uzbekistan–Tajikistan Investment Company, as well as a cooperation agreement on the use of the “E-Permit” information system to facilitate cross-border transport and logistics.

Scientific and technological collaboration also featured prominently, with both countries signing an agreement between their respective academies of sciences. Additionally, long-term implementation plans were adopted for cooperation in industry and innovation and in mining and new technologies for the period 2026–2028.

Cultural and people-to-people ties are set to deepen under a cultural cooperation action plan for 2026–2027, while strategic roadmaps were endorsed for collaboration in tourism and the agro-industrial sector through 2028.

Moreover, a series of memorandums of cooperation were signed covering innovation, public service, finance, education, and judicial enforcement, underscoring the comprehensive nature of the bilateral partnership.

The agreements collectively signal a new phase in Uzbekistan–Tajikistan relations, characterized by strengthened political trust, economic synergy, and a shared commitment to regional stability and development.
