President Tokayev Chairs Security Council Meeting on Space Sector Development

Astana, The Gulf Observer: President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev chaired a meeting of the Security Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan on June 16, where senior government officials reviewed the current state of the country’s space sector, ongoing projects, and future development prospects.

During the meeting, members of the government presented reports on key initiatives aimed at advancing Kazakhstan’s space industry. Particular attention was given to strengthening satellite communications, enhancing space infrastructure, and expanding the use of space technologies to support economic growth and public administration.

In his remarks, President Tokayev emphasized the strategic importance of the space sector for Kazakhstan’s future development and national security. He highlighted the need to ensure the reliable and sustainable operation of satellite communication systems and other critical space infrastructure.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Zhaslan Madiyev briefed the council on major projects focused on developing satellite systems, modernizing space infrastructure, and introducing practical applications based on space-derived data to improve governance and support various sectors of the economy.

President Tokayev noted that the global space industry is undergoing significant transformation, with private companies increasingly playing a leading role in areas such as telecommunications, broadcasting, navigation, space monitoring, scientific research, and internet services. He observed that space exploration and technology are no longer limited to a small group of major powers but are becoming more accessible and commercially driven.

The meeting also underscored the importance of advancing scientific research in the space sector. The President stressed the need for continued support for scientific disciplines, including astrophysics, and highlighted the significance of the Baiterek Project as a key initiative for strengthening Kazakhstan’s technological and engineering capabilities.

Addressing international cooperation, Tokayev emphasized the importance of expanding strategic partnerships with the Russian Federation and other international partners in the space field. He also called for greater attention to improving the social and living conditions of residents in Baikonur and surrounding areas associated with the country’s space infrastructure.

Following the meeting, the President issued specific instructions to the government aimed at modernizing the national space sector, enhancing its efficiency, and maximizing its contribution to Kazakhstan’s economic development, scientific advancement, and technological innovation.

The discussions reflected Kazakhstan’s commitment to strengthening its position in the rapidly evolving global space industry while leveraging space technologies to support national development goals.
