Oman Celebrates World Accreditation Day
Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, celebrated World Accreditation Day on Sunday. This year’s theme, “Accreditation: Empowering Tomorrow and Shaping the Future,” underscores the importance of accreditation in the face of rapid global developments.
Oman’s celebration was marked by the inauguration of a branch of the Gulf Accreditation Centre (GAC) in the Sultanate. This new centre aims to create a roadmap for the National Accreditation Centre and provide essential training for accreditation employees. It will also facilitate Oman’s recognition by regional and international accreditation organizations.
As part of a broader initiative, the Ministry is establishing the “Oman Accreditation Centre.” This national centre will support both government and private assessment bodies in ensuring high-quality products in Omani markets. Additionally, the centre will represent Oman in regional and international accreditation forums and engage in mutual recognition agreements with accreditation bodies worldwide, thereby securing mutual recognition certificates.
In conjunction with the celebration, a workshop titled “Empowering Laboratories to Identify the Challenges Facing the Laboratory Sector” was held. The workshop focused on the challenges in inventorying laboratories and finding appropriate solutions. It also explored ways to streamline procedures and draft regulations in collaboration with government departments, suppliers, and maintenance companies in both the government and private sectors.
The establishment of the Oman Accreditation Centre and the new GAC branch highlights Oman’s commitment to maintaining high standards and fostering international cooperation in accreditation, ensuring the presence of quality products and services within the Sultanate.
