Oman Joins UNESCO Talks on Intangible Cultural Heritage in Paraguay
Asunción, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, is actively participating in the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Convention on Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage. The session, held in Asunción, Paraguay, commenced on Wednesday and will continue until December 7, 2024.
Oman’s delegation is led by Sayyid Said bin Sultan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth for Culture.
The meeting gathers representatives from various countries to deliberate on measures aimed at conserving and documenting intangible cultural heritage. Among the agenda items is the evaluation of nominations for inclusion on the UNESCO Convention’s lists, which recognize and preserve cultural practices, traditions, and expressions of global significance.
Oman’s participation underscores its commitment to safeguarding cultural heritage and contributing to international efforts to preserve humanity’s shared intangible treasures. The Sultanate has been an active advocate for cultural heritage preservation, aligning with UNESCO’s goals of fostering diversity and sustainable cultural development.
