President Tokayev Emphasizes AI Development and Kazakhstan’s IT Potential
Astana, The Gulf Observer: The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, has shared his vision for advancing artificial intelligence (AI) in the country, highlighting Kazakhstan’s vast potential in the IT sector and the critical role of technology in national development. According to media reports, President Tokayev emphasized the need for a knowledge-based and innovation-driven economy as a cornerstone of Kazakhstan’s future.
To achieve technological and economic advancement, Tokayev underscored the importance of focusing on human capital development, digitalization, and AI. He noted that AI’s growing efficiency year by year presents Kazakhstan with an ambitious opportunity to become a leading digital hub in Eurasia.
In his remarks, President Tokayev recalled his previous proposal to establish a National AI Center, which he introduced in his state-of-the-nation address. He advocated for granting the center international status, positioning it as a key institution for advancing AI development in the region.
The president envisioned the International Center AlemAI as a central hub for AI innovation, symbolizing Kazakhstan’s digital transformation. AlemAI is set to unite the nation’s brightest minds and attract international talent. The center will house research and development labs, a programming school, and offices for global tech companies. Tokayev emphasized that institutions such as Astana Hub and AlemAI will act as innovation factories, fostering partnerships, conducting research, and developing solutions across key sectors, from education to social services.
Further, President Tokayev highlighted the importance of creating an enabling institutional environment for AI development. In line with this, the Kazakh government has adopted the 2024-2029 AI Development Concept, reflecting the country’s commitment to fostering the responsible use of AI while ensuring ethical practices, transparency, and openness in its applications.
The president also addressed the growing demand for modern computing infrastructure, stressing the need for continued investment in AI technology to support Kazakhstan’s digital and technological ambitions.
