President Tokayev Receives Defence Minister, Outlines Strategic Priorities for Armed Forces Development

Astana, The Gulf Observer: President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Commander-in-Chief of Kazakhstan’s Armed Forces, received Defence Minister Ruslan Zhaksylykov to discuss the Ministry of Defence’s activities in 2024, the Akorda press service reported.

Minister Zhaksylykov provided a comprehensive briefing on key areas, including troop training, the autumn mandatory recruitment campaign, and initiatives to strengthen discipline and enhance safety in military service. He highlighted efforts to improve the social status of military personnel, including salary increases, alongside measures to bolster the military’s overall potential and adopt innovative training approaches.

The minister also reported on the fulfillment of the government defence order and the development of advanced materials, particularly in unmanned aircraft systems and electronic warfare technologies.

President Tokayev emphasized the critical role of Kazakhstan’s peacekeeping contingent stationed at the Golan Heights under the aegis of the United Nations, underlining the country’s commitment to international stability and security.

Following the meeting, the President issued specific directives to expedite collaboration with domestic defence enterprises, advance area defence capabilities, enhance special operations forces, and strengthen social and legal support for military personnel.

These initiatives underscore Kazakhstan’s strategic focus on modernizing its armed forces and reinforcing its contribution to regional and global security.
