Puan Maharani Joins Erdogan at Pro-Palestine Parliamentary Forum in Istanbul

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Speaker of Indonesia’s House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani, participated in the opening session of a high-level inter-parliamentary forum organized by the Group of Parliaments in Support of Palestine, held in Istanbul, Türkiye. The forum, convened on Friday afternoon (April 18) local time, was presided over by Numan Kurtulmus, Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly.

Ahead of the official proceedings, Speaker Maharani and fellow parliamentary leaders from various countries met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who also attended the opening of the event.

In a statement released by the DPR on Saturday, Maharani reaffirmed Indonesia’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause through both governmental and parliamentary channels.

“Indonesia has demonstrated its support for Palestine’s freedom through a range of means. To complement the government’s efforts, the DPR has been actively engaged in parliamentary diplomacy by participating in international fora like this one,” she stated.

Maharani underscored the Indonesian parliament’s consistent efforts in advocating for the immediate cessation of violence in Gaza, noting that the DPR has repeatedly raised the issue in both bilateral and multilateral forums.

“We have been in constant coordination with other countries to voice our support for Palestine’s independence and to advocate for the uninterrupted distribution of humanitarian aid to war victims in Gaza,” she added.

The DPR Speaker also called for greater unity among parliaments worldwide to amplify support for Palestine and push for tangible outcomes.

“It is time for us to go beyond making statements. We must take collective, concrete actions that directly contribute to the struggle of the Palestinian people,” she emphasized.

Maharani’s presence at the forum was part of a broader international show of solidarity, with parliamentary leaders from Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Malaysia, Pakistan, Jordan, Senegal, Azerbaijan, Algeria, and Egypt also in attendance.

The forum serves as a platform to coordinate global parliamentary efforts in advocating for Palestinian rights and addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
