Zelenskyy Arrives in U.S. to Present "Victory Plan" Amid Ongoing War with Russia

Washington D.C., The Gulf Observer: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in the United States on Sunday for a high-stakes visit aimed at presenting Kiev’s “victory plan” to end the two-and-a-half-year war with Russia. The visit includes critical meetings with U.S. President Joe Biden and presidential contenders Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

Zelenskyy’s plan, which outlines Ukraine’s path to victory, comes at a pivotal time following a summer of intense fighting. While Moscow has made significant advances in eastern Ukraine, Kiev has managed to hold onto areas in Russia’s Kursk region. The Ukrainian president seeks to secure additional support from the West, particularly approval to use long-range weapons against targets deep inside Russia — a request yet to be granted.

In a social media post upon his arrival, Zelenskyy said, “The plan for Ukraine’s victory will be on the table for all our allies,” signaling the urgency of his discussions with U.S. leadership. He emphasized the importance of the coming weeks, stating that they will determine how the conflict, which has claimed thousands of lives, will conclude. Zelenskyy called on world leaders to consider their legacies during this decisive moment.

The Ukrainian president’s visit to the U.S. begins in Pennsylvania for an undisclosed “special visit” before continuing to New York and Washington, where he will present his proposals. Zelenskyy also expressed cautious optimism about the potential for President Biden to reconsider allowing the use of long-range weapons, noting that their discussions in the past had led to shifts in U.S. policy.

Moscow, in turn, has warned that any Western approval for Ukraine to target Russian territory would be seen as an act of war.

Zelenskyy’s visit underscores the critical role of U.S. support in shaping the next phase of the war and the ongoing efforts to secure a peaceful resolution.
