Anwar, Erdogan to Discuss Gaza Reconstruction
IPOH, The Gulf Observer: The recovery and reconstruction of Gaza will be a key agenda item during the meeting between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is scheduled to visit Malaysia next week.
According to Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin, the Prime Minister’s Senior Political Secretary, both leaders have been strong advocates for the Palestinian cause and have consistently raised their voices against the oppression of the Palestinian people.
“I think this is a critical moment, especially after US President Donald Trump announced his plan to take over the Gaza Strip, which, in my opinion, is completely unjustifiable.
“The meeting between two highly influential leaders and long-time friends is expected to have a significant impact on international efforts to facilitate the reconstruction of Gaza,” Shamsul Iskandar stated during a press conference on Friday (Feb 7) after launching the “Rumah Ibu” Scheme in Ipoh on behalf of the Prime Minister.
Trump’s Gaza Proposal Sparks Global Outrage
On Tuesday (Feb 4), Trump reportedly stated that the United States would take over the Gaza Strip, shortly after proposing the permanent resettlement of Palestinians outside the enclave to transform it into the “Riviera of the Middle East.”
His remarks have been met with widespread international condemnation, with critics describing the plan as “ethnic cleansing” and a “war crime.”
The Palestinian group Hamas and several world leaders have strongly rejected Trump’s statement, calling it a misrepresentation of the Palestinian struggle and a misunderstanding of the region’s complex realities.
The upcoming meeting between Anwar and Erdogan is expected to bolster diplomatic efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and explore concrete steps for its recovery and long-term stability.
