Iranian, Egyptian Foreign Ministers Hold Talks in Cairo

Cairo, The Gulf Observer: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi affirmed on Monday that the path to expanding ties between Tehran and Cairo is more open than ever, emphasizing that no significant obstacles remain to the improvement of relations between the two countries.

Speaking during a joint press conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty in Cairo, Araqchi described Iran and Egypt as two major regional powers with ancient civilizations and a shared responsibility in promoting peace, security, and development across the region.

“Iran and Egypt are historic nations with deep-rooted ties and common regional interests. Both countries play a pivotal role in advancing regional stability, prosperity, and cooperation,” Araqchi stated.

He underlined the mutual determination of both sides to enhance bilateral relations through increased political consultations and deeper economic cooperation. “There is undoubtedly a common will to move forward, and both countries are committed to strengthening their ties across all sectors,” he said.

Araqchi also noted that technical and diplomatic efforts are underway to overcome existing challenges, adding, “No major obstacles stand in the way of our relations, and we expect any remaining issues to be resolved in the near future.”

Highlighting the positive trajectory of bilateral engagement, the Iranian diplomat said, “This progress could materialize in the coming weeks. We have agreed to maintain regular political consultations and are committed to boosting trade and initiating tourism exchanges.”

On regional issues, Araqchi reiterated Iran’s strong stance in support of the Palestinian cause. “In our talks, I emphasized the need to confront the crimes of the Zionist regime and reaffirmed Iran’s unwavering support for the rights of the people of Gaza and Palestine,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation for Egypt and Qatar’s mediation efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Gaza. “Iran calls for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip,” he stressed.

Commenting on the U.S.-proposed draft agreement regarding Iran’s nuclear file, Araqchi said, “We will soon issue a formal response based on our principles and national interests. Iran’s enrichment rights are non-negotiable, and without respecting these rights, no agreement will be possible.”

On the potential reactivation of the snapback mechanism, he warned against such a move, urging European countries to avoid escalating tensions. “Such a policy would be counterproductive and would only deepen existing crises. We remain committed to diplomacy as the best path to resolving disputes and ensuring stability,” he concluded.
