Iranian and Russian Lawmakers Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Lawmakers from Iran and Russia have reaffirmed their shared commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation and enhancing coordination in response to Western sanctions and policies, during a parliamentary meeting held in Moscow on Friday.
Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma, Boris Chernyshov, met with the visiting Iranian delegation led by lawmaker Mohsen Zangeneh, emphasizing that relations between the two parliaments were at “the highest level of mutual trust.” He noted that dialogue between Moscow and Tehran continued constructively at all levels.
“Our relations with Iran are built on mutual trust and respect,” Chernyshov stated. “The positions of our two countries on international issues, particularly regarding US and Western policies, remain close and coordinated.”
Chernyshov further underlined that Russia’s experience in overcoming the challenges posed by sanctions could serve as a valuable model for both nations. He pointed out that Russian companies, despite initial setbacks, successfully rebuilt operations and opened new markets, adding, “Iran has had a similar experience, and exchanging these lessons can benefit both sides.”
In turn, Mohsen Zangeneh highlighted the longstanding and deepening relations between Tehran and Moscow, particularly in recent years. He drew attention to major joint infrastructure projects such as the International North–South Transport Corridor (INSTC), noting that Iran’s parliament would seek to allocate budget funds for their continued implementation next year.
Zangeneh also commended the progress achieved in financial cooperation, including the linkage of the two countries’ payment systems. However, he emphasized that the current volume of bilateral trade “still falls short of the two countries’ full potential and could be multiplied” through further coordinated efforts.
The meeting underscored the shared determination of Iran and Russia to strengthen their strategic partnership and enhance economic, infrastructural, and parliamentary cooperation amid continued external pressures.
