Iranian, Russian Foreign Ministers Discuss Regional Developments and Upcoming IAEA Board Meeting

Iranian

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held a telephone conversation on Wednesday, during which they discussed a range of regional and international issues, including the forthcoming meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors.

According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the two top diplomats exchanged views on the latest developments in the region, with particular focus on the cross-border tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Minister Araghchi emphasized the importance of dialogue and diplomatic engagement to address and resolve outstanding issues between neighboring states.

The Iranian Foreign Minister further highlighted the necessity of continued consultations between Tehran and Moscow, as well as with other regional partners, to strengthen efforts toward achieving peace, stability, and collective security in the region.

Referring to recent actions by the United States and certain European countries in the UN Security Council regarding Palestine—particularly a draft resolution proposing the deployment of an international force in Gaza—Araghchi said such a plan was “doomed to failure,” arguing that it contradicts the principles of liberty and the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.

For his part, Minister Lavrov reaffirmed Russia’s readiness to maintain and expand bilateral and regional consultations aimed at ensuring collective security and stability.

The two ministers also discussed Iran’s cooperation with the IAEA, underscoring the importance of continued coordination among Tehran, Moscow, and Beijing ahead of the upcoming IAEA Board of Governors session.

The phone call followed a meeting between representatives of China, Iran, and Russia and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi in Vienna, where the parties exchanged views on key issues to be addressed during the Board’s forthcoming deliberations.
