Milli Majlis

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis hosted a meeting on January 31 with members of the professional staff of the majority of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs to discuss the current state and future prospects of Azerbaijan–U.S. relations.

During the meeting, Samad Seyidov, Chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee on International Relations and Interparliamentary Affairs and head of the Azerbaijan–U.S. interparliamentary relations working group, highlighted the historical foundations of bilateral ties, ongoing areas of cooperation, and opportunities for further development.

Seyidov referred to the historic working visit of President Ilham Aliyev to the United States last August, noting that the meetings and agreements reached during the visit had elevated bilateral relations to a qualitatively new level. He emphasized that these developments have also played a significant role in advancing the Azerbaijan–Armenia peace agenda, as well as in promoting regional stability and cooperation.

The meeting underscored the importance of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), stating that the U.S.-supported initiative is expected to reshape Eurasia’s transport landscape and contribute to deeper cooperation across the broader region.

Participants also discussed the significance of repealing Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, noting that such a step would contribute to the development of bilateral relations, the strengthening of mutual trust, and the expansion of cooperation between the two countries.

Members of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee staff welcomed the recent positive dynamics in U.S.–Azerbaijan relations, describing them as entering a new stage of development and stressing that maintaining this momentum would serve the interests of both nations.
