Tajikistan, Kazakhstan Railways Agree to Expand Cooperation and Develop Regional Transport Corridors

Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: The leadership of Tajikistan and Kazakhstan’s railway enterprises has agreed to expand cooperation and jointly develop transport corridors linking Central Asia to global markets.
Komil Mirzoali, head of the State Unitary Enterprise “Railways of Tajikistan,” held talks in Dushanbe with Talgat Aldibergenov, Chairman of NK Kazakh Temir Zholy, to discuss future collaboration and strategic transport initiatives.
The discussions underscored the long-term partnership between the two railway administrations and their shared commitment to ensuring uninterrupted transport connectivity. Following the meeting, the sides signed a bilateral protocol summarizing achievements in 2025 and outlining cooperation plans for 2026.
Kazakhstan remains among Tajikistan’s top three trading partners. In 2025, bilateral trade reached $1.19 billion, while rail freight volume rose by 15.1 percent to 5.9 million tons. Tajikistan primarily imports wheat, barley, oil, petroleum products, metals, and fertilizers from Kazakhstan, while exporting cotton, aluminum and related products, as well as fruits and vegetables.
Officials noted that expanding cargo volumes and transport routes is expected to further strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
The railway leaders agreed to enhance the competitiveness of rail routes, deepen trade and economic ties, integrate logistics processes, digitize documentation systems, and jointly develop transport corridors connecting Central Asia to world markets.
During his visit, Aldibergenov also met with Tajikistan’s First Deputy Prime Minister Khokim Kholikzoda and Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin. The meetings focused on strategic directions for transit and logistics development, emphasizing the establishment of efficient transport corridors and the steady growth of cargo volumes.
Earlier, it was reported that the first freight train had departed via the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan–Tajikistan route, marking another step toward strengthening regional connectivity and trade integration.
