Samarkand, The Gulf Observer: On September 7-8, Samarkand will host the International Conference on Food Security. The International Conference on Food Security is organized by the Government of Uzbekistan and is supported by FAO. The event will be attended by ministers and diplomats from more than 30 countries, as well as representatives of international, scientific organizations, and financial institutions of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Economic Cooperation Organization, the World Bank, the Islamic Organization for Food Security, the Asian Development Bank and others Today, the world is facing land degradation and water scarcity, a pandemic, and an unstable geopolitical situation, – commented the Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan Aziz Voitov. – Against the backdrop of these challenges, the issue of food security is becoming more and more acute. We all feel how climate change affects agriculture and, as a result, the provision of food for the population. Water resources are depleted, and high temperatures negatively affect crop yields and livestock. Climate fluctuations make food production less predictable, reducing forecasting and planning accuracy. Meanwhile, planning is the key to avoiding a shortage of certain products.
The upcoming conference will be an excellent platform to discuss the global challenges and solutions for developing agri-food systems. Also on the agenda is the opening of green and express corridors between the participating countries for the direct supply of high-quality and affordable food.
Within the framework of the Conference on Food Security, the exhibition “Agrifood Potential of Uzbekistan” and the 1st Agrifood Investment Forum of Uzbekistan will be held. More than 50 companies from Germany, Italy, Israel, Hungary, the Republic of Korea, Poland, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan will participate in the forum.
It should be noted that this international event will play a significant role in enhancing measures to ensure food security – an important issue facing all countries of the world, in promoting achievements in the agricultural sector and exchanging experience. And holding this event in Uzbekistan will help attract the attention of the world community to the country, ancient Samarkand.
