Bangladesh Conducts General Election Amidst Key Political Dynamics
Dhaka, The Gulf Observer: Today, voters in Bangladesh commenced the parliamentary elections amidst the notable absence of the Bangladesh National Party, led by former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, which chose to boycott the electoral process.
Approximately 120 million eligible voters participated, casting their ballots for all but one of the 300 parliamentary seats, contested by 1,970 candidates from various parties and independents, as reported by the Election Commission. The election results, eagerly awaited, are anticipated to be revealed on Monday. In a bid to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections, authorities deployed over 800,000 security personnel to maintain order and uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
