Indonesia's FM Outlines Priorities in Supporting Palestinian Cause

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi outlined Indonesia’s key priorities in supporting the Palestinian cause and assisting the Palestinian people amid ongoing Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip during a meeting with Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR) on Wednesday.

Marsudi emphasized that Indonesia’s foremost priority is to push for an immediate and permanent ceasefire. “Without a ceasefire, no improvement can take place,” she stated. The minister stressed that a ceasefire is crucial for any positive change to occur.

The second priority, as highlighted by Marsudi, is to ensure the smooth distribution of humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people and to support the efforts of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). She affirmed Indonesia’s commitment to increasing humanitarian aid, either through direct distribution or via UNRWA, with adjustments made as necessary to meet the needs of the Palestinian people.

Marsudi identified a third priority: pressuring all parties to comply with the decisions of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), particularly regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict. “We hope the UN Security Council can establish a resolution to put pressure on Israel to carry out ICJ decisions,” she added.

Additionally, Indonesia will focus on encouraging more countries to recognize Palestine’s sovereignty, advocating for Palestine’s full membership status in the UN, and supporting the realization of the two-state solution. The minister reiterated that Indonesia’s Constitution mandates the abolition of colonialism, reflecting the country’s longstanding commitment to Palestinian independence.

“Indonesia will utilize all possible avenues to continue supporting Palestine, either through political support, bilateral or international forums, the ICJ, or by continuing our humanitarian assistance support,” Marsudi concluded.

Indonesia’s dedication to the Palestinian cause remains steadfast, aligning with its constitutional principles and its role in the international community.
