President Mirziyoyev Affirms Commitment to Women’s Empowerment on Uzbekistan’s National Women’s Day

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the Republic of Uzbekistan marked the celebration of National Women’s Day by participating in a ceremony that highlighted the nation’s commitment to women’s empowerment and recognition of their significant contributions to society. The theme of this year’s celebration was “The UAE Unites Us.”

Addressing the gathering, President Mirziyoyev expressed sincere love and deep respect for women, emphasizing their role as mothers who contribute to shaping society. He stated, “Respect for a person’s honor and dignity begins, first of all, with respect for our dear women.”

Under the framework of the Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy, the country is actively working to increase women’s participation in various sectors, protect motherhood and childhood, promote gender equality, and safeguard women’s rights and interests. Notable achievements include the increase in women’s representation in public administration from 27 percent in 2017 to 35 percent today.

The President highlighted advancements in expanding economic opportunities for women, with the number of businesswomen doubling over the past five years. Additionally, substantial efforts have been made to realize the potential of girls through education, with over 1 million 300 thousand students in higher education institutions, more than half of whom are girls.

President Mirziyoyev stressed the importance of continuing to create conditions for the development of social spheres and realizing the potential of women and girls. He recognized the significant role of women in science, where 5,247 women have received academic degrees in the past seven years.

To further support women’s employment and entrepreneurship, a special commission will be organized, led by the Chairman of the Senate. The commission will work in each region, focusing on training women in professions, providing employment, and fostering entrepreneurship. The President announced a separate program to attract women to entrepreneurship with an allocation of 15 trillion UZS, supplemented by grants from international partners.

President Mirziyoyev concluded by emphasizing the importance of spiritual and educational work, with a renewed commitment to promoting family values. Uzbekistan’s dedication to women’s advancement has gained international recognition, with the World Bank ranking the country among the world’s five fastest-growing nations in terms of gender equality.

The festive celebration included the awarding of the State Prize named after Zulfiya to 28 girls and the presentation of orders and medals to active women from various fields.
