Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra Begins Official Visit to Vietnam

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister of Thailand Paetongtarn Shinawatra arrived in Hanoi on Thursday, commencing her two-day official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính.

Upon arrival at Nội Bài International Airport, Prime Minister Paetongtarn was warmly welcomed by Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyễn Văn Hùng, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyễn Mạnh Cường, and Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Phạm Việt Hùng.

During the visit, the two leaders will co-chair the 4th Vietnam–Thailand Joint Cabinet Meeting, a key platform to review and further enhance bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn’s government attaches significant importance to deepening ties with ASEAN partners, especially Vietnam, with a strong focus on economic collaboration and tourism promotion. In an interview in Bangkok, Ambassador Phạm Việt Hùng emphasized the historical significance of the visit, noting it is the first official trip to Vietnam by a Thai Prime Minister since PM Prayut Chan-o-cha’s visit in 2014.

The visit comes at a pivotal time as the two countries prepare to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1976–2026). Ambassador Hùng highlighted that this milestone reflects the strong foundation of friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand.

In the context of the enhanced strategic partnership, which has witnessed robust and comprehensive development across political, economic, cultural, and people-to-people dimensions, Prime Minister Paetongtarn’s visit is expected to provide fresh impetus to bilateral relations and advance them in a more practical, effective, and forward-looking manner.
