Malaysia to Establish Sovereign AI Cloud to Boost Digital Security and Development

Kuala Lumpur, The Gulf Observer: Malaysia will establish a Sovereign AI Cloud to safeguard the nation’s artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, ensuring they remain secure, sovereign, and capable of supporting government services and the country’s broader digital transformation agenda.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the initiative following the National Digital Economy and 4IR Council (MED4IRN) meeting, which he chaired on Thursday morning (October 2).
“Among the main agenda items were the implementation of MyDigital ID, which needs to be strengthened, and the status of MyGov Malaysia, which requires the cooperation and support of all ministries and agencies,” Anwar said in a statement posted on Facebook.
He added that these initiatives form part of the government’s preparations for Malaysia to become an AI-driven nation by 2030.
The meeting also endorsed the proposed National Quantum Policy, beginning with the creation of a National Quantum Task Force to bolster preparedness in addressing technological advances in quantum computing and the potential “Q-Day” threat, which could compromise national data security and digital infrastructure.
Anwar emphasized that these measures are crucial to ensure Malaysia remains competitive, resilient, and well-prepared to meet future technological challenges.
