Jokowi Urges Proper Supervision of 2024 Eid al-Fitr Homecoming Travel
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has called upon ministers to oversee the 2024 Eid al-Fitr homecoming travel meticulously to ensure the safe arrival of an estimated 193 million travelers at their destinations.
Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi emphasized the importance of supervising the travel operations effectively, reflecting on the president’s keen interest in the progress of these efforts.
Sumadi, speaking alongside President Jokowi during their observation of Eid homecoming activities at Jakarta’s Pasar Senen Station on Monday, acknowledged and apologized for congestion experienced at the Port of Merak in Banten.
The minister attributed the congestion to a sudden 65 percent increase in traveler numbers at the port, noting that some travelers arrived without tickets, exacerbating the situation.
President Jokowi’s proactive engagement underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring smooth and safe travel experiences during this significant period, emphasizing the importance of adequate preparation and coordination to manage travel challenges effectively.
