President Putin Ratifies 20-Year Strategic Cooperation Treaty with Iran

Moscow, The Gulf Observer: Russian President Vladimir Putin has officially ratified a landmark 20-year strategic cooperation treaty with the Islamic Republic of Iran, marking a significant step in strengthening long-term bilateral ties between the two nations.

The ratification, signed into law by President Putin on Monday, follows the approval of the agreement by both chambers of Russia’s Federal Assembly — the State Duma and the Federation Council — earlier this month.

Originally signed in Moscow on January 17 by President Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, the treaty was hailed by both leaders as a transformative development in the two countries’ partnership. President Putin described the accord as a “breakthrough document,” while President Pezeshkian emphasized that it would “open a new chapter in relations between Iran and Russia in all fields.”

The comprehensive agreement outlines a framework for expanding cooperation across a broad array of sectors, including defense, energy, finance, transportation, industry, agriculture, tourism, culture, science, and technology. It is designed to institutionalize strategic collaboration and deepen coordination on regional and international platforms.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Russia Today during his recent visit to Moscow, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi confirmed that the Iranian Parliament is expected to ratify the treaty within days, paving the way for its formal implementation by Tehran.

The agreement reflects a growing alignment between Russia and Iran in response to shifting global dynamics and shared interests in multipolar world order, economic resilience, and regional stability. Once fully ratified by both parties, the treaty is set to serve as a cornerstone of bilateral relations for the next two decades.
