New York, The Gulf Observer: A delegation of Turkmenistan led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs participated in the meeting of the Group of Friends of Global Governance held in New York under the theme “Reforming and Improving Global Governance, Working Together to Address Global Challenges.”

During his address, the head of Turkmenistan’s foreign ministry expressed gratitude to Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the China, for the invitation and reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s support for the Global Governance Initiative put forward by Xi Jinping on September 1, 2025, at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. He noted that Turkmenistan’s participation in the Group of Friends represents an important platform for advancing this initiative within the framework of the United Nations.

Within the implementation framework of the Global Governance Initiative, the Turkmen side presented four major proposals.

The first proposal emphasizes the transition toward preventive governance, including the establishment of a Multilateral Platform for Preventive Governance aimed at the early identification and prevention of conflicts and crises.

The second proposal focuses on strengthening the international legal framework. In this regard, Turkmenistan is promoting at the United Nations the initiative to declare 2028 as the International Year of Law, intended to foster broad global dialogue on the role of law amid ongoing global transformations.

The third initiative addresses data reliability and digital transformation, highlighting the importance of using verified data in decision-making processes. Turkmenistan advocated the development of universal principles for data reliability, along with joint international mechanisms for verification.

The fourth proposal underscores inclusiveness and practical implementation, stressing that the effectiveness of global governance should be measured by its capacity to address concrete global challenges through trust-based and inclusive cooperation.

Concluding its remarks, the Turkmen delegation emphasized that preventive governance, international law, reliable data systems, and the practical execution of initiatives together form an integrated framework for responsible international cooperation.
