International Chemistry Olympiad

Dubai, The Gulf Observer: The United Arab Emirates is set to host the 57th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), the world’s foremost scientific competition in the field of chemistry, from 6 to 14 July 2025 in Dubai.

This landmark edition will bring together over 360 students from more than 90 countries, marking the largest participation in the Olympiad’s history since its inception in 1968, and reinforcing the UAE’s emerging role as a global centre for science education, innovation, and academic excellence.

Sarah Al Amiri, UAE Minister of Education, emphasised that hosting this prestigious international event aligns with the nation’s vision of becoming a hub for education, scientific advancement, and youth empowerment.

“This milestone will inspire Emirati students and help shape a new generation of scientists capable of innovation and global competitiveness,” said Al Amiri. “It also represents a national opportunity to enhance the quality of education and to develop a learning environment that keeps pace with the world’s best models.”

Zaki Nusseibeh, Cultural Adviser to the UAE President and Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), highlighted the significance of the Olympiad as a platform to foster academic excellence and scientific innovation among young people worldwide.

“Our participation in this significant event reaffirms UAEU’s commitment to national leadership in generating, disseminating, and applying knowledge for the greater benefit of society,” Nusseibeh stated. He further underscored that empowering youth and supporting global scientific collaboration are essential to building a more prosperous and sustainable world.

Organised by the UAE Ministry of Education (MoE), the IChO 2025 programme will feature advanced theoretical and practical examinations, cultural tours, and social events to promote global exchange among young scientific talent. This year’s edition will also introduce cutting-edge technological innovations, including digital monitoring tools and an integrated, state-of-the-art practical testing environment, setting a new benchmark for educational laboratories worldwide.

The UAE national team, comprising four students selected through a rigorous national competition, has undergone extensive training at UAEU and participated in a science camp at the Sirius Education Centre in Russia to prepare for the competition.

This initiative reflects the UAE’s unwavering commitment to nurturing scientific talent and encouraging youth to pursue studies in chemistry and related sciences, while prompting educational institutions to align their curricula with international standards.
