Türkiye Welcomes Arab League’s Gaza Reconstruction Plan

Gaza Reconstruction Plan

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Türkiye has welcomed the adoption of a reconstruction plan for Gaza at the Arab League summit held on Tuesday, reaffirming its support for efforts aimed at securing a permanent ceasefire and rebuilding the war-torn region.

“We will continue to support initiatives that aim to achieve a permanent ceasefire, begin the reconstruction of Gaza, and ensure that Palestinians live in peace on their land,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

The Arab League’s plan, led by Egypt, comes in response to US President Donald Trump’s proposal to “take over” Gaza and relocate Palestinians to develop the territory into what he called “the Riviera of the Middle East.” The emergency summit in Cairo adopted Egypt’s $53 billion plan to rebuild Gaza without displacing its residents.

The reconstruction initiative consists of two phases: an early recovery phase and a broader reconstruction phase. The six-month early recovery phase, estimated at $3 billion, focuses on demining, debris removal, and providing temporary housing for displaced families. To address immediate shelter needs, seven designated sites will be established to house over 1.5 million displaced individuals, while initial repairs to 60,000 damaged homes will provide accommodation for 360,000 people.

Türkiye has consistently voiced support for Palestinian sovereignty and humanitarian efforts in Gaza, emphasizing the need for sustainable peace and the protection of Palestinian rights.
